Hartford Hospital Names Linda Spivack Vice President of Patient Care Services

Linda Berger Spivack, RN, MSN, has been named Vice President of Patient Care Services at Hartford Hospital. Her appointment was announced May 7 by Jeffrey A. Flaks, the hospital’s Executive Vice President & COO.

Spivack most recently worked with Yale-New Haven Hospital in designing the operations for its Smilow Cancer Hospital, slated to open in late 2009, and consulted on YNH’s nursing operations and professional practice. From 1999 to 2007, she was Vice President of Patient Care Services at MidState Medical Center.

Under her leadership, the clinical team achieved remarkable results in the areas of patient care and satisfaction. She is president of the Connecticut Organization of Nurse Executives and a past trustee of the Connecticut Hospital Association, a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, the honor society of nursing, and an adjunct faculty member in the University of Hartford’s graduate nursing program.

She earned her BS in Nursing from Stern College for Women at Yeshiva University in New York and her MS from the City University of New York.

Flaks said that Spivack has just the right background and temperament for the job. “Linda has an impressive professional track record, but it is her warmth, enthusiasm and deep passion for nursing that make her the perfect choice for our Vice President of Patient Care Services,” he said. “As a colleague of Linda’s at MidState, I valued her dedication to her profession, her talent for inspiring others and her desire for excellence.”

Flaks said that it is fitting that news of Spivack’s appointment was released during National Nurses Week (May 6-12), which is marked by a series of special events at Hartford Hospital. “These events remind us that nursing is more vital than ever,” he said. “It is the front line of patient care, quality and safety.”
