About the Department

The Department of Ophthalmology is comprised of thirty-eight ophthalmologists, all of whom maintain private practice offices and offer a full range of ophthalmologic services. Surgery is performed at the Eye Institute at Hartford Hospital which has the latest state-of-the-art ophthalmology surgical equipment for all types of general and sub-specialty surgery. The department consists of the following sections: General Ophthalmology, Diseases and Surgery of Retina and Vitreous and Pediatric Ophthalmology (CCMC).

In addition to being a major center for cataract surgery in the central Connecticut area, the Eye Institute is a referral resource for:

Advanced cataract surgery
Anterior segment surgery
Cornea surgery
Glaucoma surgery
Ocular-plastic surgery
Ocular-trauma surgery
Retinal and vitreous surgery

Requests for consultations may be directed to the ophthalmologist on call thru the Emergency Department. Each member of the department covers the on-call service for one week at a time beginning Friday mornings each week.

Consultations on private patients may be requested through the department’s on-call service or directly with any of the ophthalmologists.
