The Olin Neuropsychiatry Research Center, located on the Institute of Living campus of Hartford Hospital, maintains the only high field Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scanner of its kind in the state of Connecticut.

The Siemens 3 Tesla Allegra scanner touted is engineered specifically for brain imaging. It is optimal for clinical brain imaging (for stroke, arteries, seizure, tumor, Multiple Sclerosis, and cranial nerves) and very fast functional scan times for research purposes.

 

 

 

For added client/participant comfort, in-scanner music and movie capabilities have been added. The technical staff is trained to aid the client in obtaining the best images possible. Combined with on-site, complimentary parking and a professional collaboration with Hartford Hospital and its radiologists, the client is ensured a positive MR experience. Clinical scans may be requested through Hartford Hospital by ordering physicians.

 

Since the center’s inception in May of 2003, we have performed over 1,500 research scans and over 200 clinical exams under the direction of Godfrey Pearlson, MD. As our directors are Yale faculty members, we also enjoy research collaboration with Yale, Johns Hopkins University and the University of Connecticut.

 

Our research includes imaging clients affected with Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder, PTSD, OCD, the effects of alcohol on driving, as well as healthy participants. Studies of Alzheimer’s disease and other early onset dementias are also in progress.
