The following classes, events, programs and support groups are available through the Helen & Harry Gray Cancer Center. Classes are held at our Hartford and Avon locations, as well as other Hartford Hospital locations. Some classes are free; others charge a fee, and some allow online registration.

A Soul's Retreat for Cancer Survivors
    This one day program teaches you how to listen and trust the Soul's guidance, restoring your sense of wholeness. Through creativity, inner dialogue, self care practices and the art of rebalancing, you will leave inspired to fully participate in your life, staying true to the guidance of your Soul.
Are You at Risk for Breast Cancer?
    This free educational seminar will provide you with valuable information on major risk factors for breast cancer including: age and reproductive factors, risks resulting from benign conditions such as various atypias, family history and genetics.
Barrett's Esophagus & Cancer: Prevention, Surgical & Non-Surgical Treatment Options
    Hartford Hospital invites you to learn about Barrett's Esophagus and Esophageal Cancer prevention, surgical and non- surgical treatment options.
Brain Tumor Survivor Support Group
    Provides brain tumor patients and families with education and support.
Cancer Wellness Support Series
    Come learn strategies to clear your mind and improve your mood in Introduction to Stress Management, Guided Imagery, and Gentle Yoga. A free series of classes open to all Hartford Hospital Cancer Program Patients and their care-givers

Change Your Eating, Change Your Life-After Cancer
    It is often difficult to make the transition from a diet lacking in whole foods to a healthy, cancer fighting strategic health plan. This class offers support during the transition, and will help you develop skill power as we explore diet strategies and their influence on enhancing and strengthening the body's innate healing system.
General Cancer Support Group
    This General Cancer Support Group addresses issues surrounding a cancer diagnosis, as well as treatment and recovery, for people with cancer and their loved ones.
Life After Prostate Cancer
    Hartford Hospital invites you to attend a question/answer session regarding your quality of life after prostate cancer.
Localized Prostate Cancer: Detection and Treatment

Look Good; Feel Better
    Cosmetology professionals help cancer patients with makeup, skin and nail care, wigs, scarves and hats. (English & Spanish sessions offered.)
Understanding Bladder Cancer
    Hartford Hospital invites you to a free educational seminar on Understanding Bladder Cancer from the eyes of a physician, a patient and a care giver.
Using Hypnosis to Quit Smoking
    In this introductory class you'll learn why hypnosis has been proven to have over a 90% success rate for smoking cessation when all other methods combined hover around 17% success.

    Free telephone-based program providing information, counseling, referrals and support.
Individual Smoking Cessation Counseling
    Recommended for individuals who would benefit from a personalized, one-on-one treatment approach for smoking cessation. Meet with an experienced cessation counselor.
Mobile Mammography
    New state-of-the-art mammography equipment can now be transported to community organizations to provide screenings
New Beginnings - A wellness program for life after cancer
    A six-week program to help men and women learn more about stress management, healthy eating, manageable exercise, memory retention, available resources and moving on with their lives after cancer treatment.
Prostate Cancer Support Group
    Provides education and support for prostate cancer patients and families to understand and deal with this disease.
Smoke Free for Life: A Six Week Support Group
    If you have ever attempted to quit smoking, you probably know the importance of support. Hartford Hospital is here to help.
