Hospital Accommodations:

Your Room
Your room assignment at Hartford Hospital is based upon your admitting diagnosis and the bed availability on the day of your admission.

Private Rooms
Private rooms at Hartford Hospital are based on the clinical needs of patients. A private room may be requested, but the room assignment is based on patient’s admitting diagnosis and the bed availability on the day of admission.

Your Hospital Bed
Hospital beds are electronically operated, and your health care team will show you how to work your bed properly. The bedside rails are for your protection. They may be raised at night or during the day if you are resting, recovering from surgery or taking certain medications.

Calling For Assistance
A button to call for assistance is located at your bedside. When you press the button, the patient care unit is alerted that you need assistance, and a light will flash next to your door. A member of the health care team will respond to your signal as soon as possible.

Smoke-Free Environment
Smoking is a major preventable cause of disease and death. As a health care institution it is the responsibility of Hartford Hospital to provide a smoke-free environment for its patients, visitors, employees and physicians.
If you smoke outside on Hospital Grounds, please use the Gazebo located outside of the Cafeteria or to the right of the Main Entrance of the Hospital (behind the Conklin Building).

Television
Color television is available in all rooms. If you would like to rent a television, a representative will visit you on a daily basis or please call 545-1999. Please see Television Service in Patient Rooms for more information.

Telephones
Telephones are provided in each room, except in Intensive Care Units. Patients may receive calls in their rooms from 8:00 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. Local calls may be made at any time from the patient’s room by dialing “9” plus the number. To place an internal call, dial 5 and the last four digits of the number. Relatives and friends may call directly by dialing the number on your phone, between 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. For more information, and information on family and friend conference calling please see Telephone Service in Patient Rooms.

Cellular Telephones and Similar Devices

  • Operating Rooms
  • All Intensive Care Units (ICU’s) and recovery areas

  • The emergency use of wireless communication devices should be kept away from any piece of medical equipment by at least 10 feet.
  • Wireless communication devices may be used in non-patient areas (i.e. stairways, cafeteria, lobbies, on campus grounds outside, conference rooms and offices).

Internet Access In Patient Rooms
Computers and electronic equipment are not allowed in Patient Rooms due to Biomedical safety standards.

Hartford Hospital does have a Wireless Visitor’s Network available in the
cafeteria, all main lobby’s, the family lounges, and in the Conklin Building

from your computer. Please utilize the options above if your computer
is unable to access the Visitor’s Network.
