HealthStream® E-Learning |
The HealthStream® E-Learning System is a web-based, self-paced software application covering most JCAHO and OSHA mandatory courses. Staff can meet many of their annual mandatory competencies by completing these courses on-line. Once course and post-test are completed, a notation is made on the staff's account and staff can also print out certificates of completion.
Please note that a user name/password is required to use HealthStream®. Any problems accessing or navigating this product should be directed to Performance Development Center at vcruse@harthosp.org or (860) 545-3985. The IS Help Desk may also be able to assist you on off hours and weekends at helpdesk@harthosp.org or (860) 545-5699.
Helpful Hints for Logging on and Navigating the System
-
From a Hartford Hospital PC: Click on HH Web Services icon to launch the Intranet. Healthstream is listed under Employee Services. This will bring you to a student log-in screen. From other locations: Go to www.harthosp.org, select For Health Professionals, then Education, then click the HealthStream E-Learning link, or simply yype in www.healthstream.com/hlc/cths in the URL box of your browser.
-
When the HealthStream Student Log-On Screen displays, type in your User ID and Password (employees must use their 5 digit Employee ID number for both User ID and Password). Make sure you do not put any letters in front of the numbers.
-
Click Log-In. This will bring you to the Assigned Courses screen. Only courses/tests that have been assigned to you will be listed on this page.
-
From the Assigned Courses screen, click on the title of a course/test you wish to complete. The Course Details Screen will appear. This screen lists all the learning activities associated with the course title, along with the status of each course (not yet started, in progress or completed), the score (if a test was included) and date last accessed (if not yet completed).
HealthStream Page Layout:
-
Header Bar: You will routinely be using the “My Courses” and “My Transcript” tabs.
-
My Courses tab: automatically comes up on this page each time you log in. It identifies which courses have been assigned based on job category (RN, PCA, Manager) and assigned work specialty (clinical, non-clinical; unit/dept code)
-
My Transcript tab: will show which courses have been completed and/or tests successfully passed along with date of completion.
-
My Courses Screen: Courses are listed alphabetically within 2 categories: Assigned (i.e. Mandatory Courses or Validation Day Tests) or Elective/Enrolled (i.e. PDC Classes). Those titles listed with a (PA) are available for you to attempt to pre-test out of. Passing grade for all staff is 80%. JCAHO and OSHA dictate this percentage. Pre-assessment and posttest exams have the same number of questions, but the order in which they are presented, and the order of the answer options are jumbled for each user.
-
Assigned Courses Screen:
-
Upcoming Classes: If you have assigned Classes that are not yet active, they will be listed here.
-
Classes to be Registered: If you see titles listed here, it means that you can self-register by clicking on the title and filling in the session date you wish to attend.
-
Course Overview Screen: Click on this link if you want more detailed course information (i.e. course objectives, credits awarded and credit type).
-
Credits indicate if we are awarding any type of continuing education credits (CME, CH).
-
Credit Type indicates if course is categorized as “regulatory (mandatory)” or “elective”.
-
A legend at the bottom of the screen lets you know which learning activities are associated with each course title (internet course, classroom activity, test, evaluation)
-
Click on the course you wish to view. Use left mouse/single click to navigate the system.
-
Title screen will show up listing introduction, each lesson and pre/post-test comprising the course. If Security Screen pops up, click OK.
-
Click on the Introduction link if you wish a brief description of the course. If not, go directly to Next Step.
-
Using the bottom navigation tool bar, click on Next screen, or Previous screen for review. This portion of the page also shows which page of the lesson you are on.
-
If you need to exit lesson before completing course, click the Exit button on bottom tool bar. HealthStream will automatically bookmark the page and section you left off on. Do not close the window (DO NOT CLICK ON “X” IN RED BOX LOCATED AT UPPER RIGHT HAND CORNER OF SCREEN) to exit the test!
-
When you re-access a course you exited before finishing, your bookmarked screen will pop up. You will then have the choice of starting where your left off (click Start Up Where Left Off), or starting at the beginning of the lesson (click Restart Course From Beginning).
-
Periodically throughout each lesson you may be quizzed. This allows for immediate feedback.
-
When all lessons are completed (progress bar totally filled in), click on Exit “X” at bottom right of screen. This will take you back to the Course Learning Activities page.
-
Click on Exam link.
-
Exams in HealthStream will have questions in 4 different formats:
-
You can take post-tests as many times as you need to pass them.
-
While taking a test, click on a chosen answer then move on to next question by hitting the Next button or by scrolling down. (Make sure that the circle for your answer is filled as this is what triggers electronic scoring. A test will not score until all questions have been answered.
-
If you cannot finish a test at one sitting, you can exit the exam. The system will bookmark what portion was completed without scoring the exam. Upon return, you can complete the remaining questions and then score your exam.
-
You can go back and change your answers, but you must do this prior to hitting the Submit button.
-
A screen will pop up indicating you passed the exam. For HealthStream created courses, each question is reviewed with a red (incorrect answer) or green (correct answer) check mark as well as the correct answer and rationale.
-
Click the link that says Return to Course Details.
-
Click My Transcript. The title of course just completed will show up with date completed.
-
Click Title then click View Certificate to see copy of Certificate of Completion. Click the Print button if you wish to print the certificate.
-
To leave Healthstream system, click the Log Out button (Black Tool bar at top of screen).
