Patient ServicesKeeping in Touch Program
The goal of the Keeping In Touch program is to help maintain cognitive functioning in hospitalized older adults.  Volunteers converse with patients, reminisce, read to them, play cards/games, do puzzles, listen to music, etc.  Training requires one three-hour training session conducted by the geriatrics department, and two shifts shadowing a current volunteer.   Volunteers are then scheduled to come in once a week for a three-hour shift.

Lasting Connections
Won’t you help us stay connected to former dedicated Hartford Hospital volunteers who are no longer able to volunteer?  Each volunteer for this program is matched with a “retired” volunteer.  A call is made and a card is sent on a monthly basis.  The retired volunteers will also receive the Rxtra to keep them current with the Hospital’s activities.  This new program lets the former volunteers know that they made a difference to the Hospital and have not been forgotten.  This meaningful volunteer role can be done from home.
